Jim graduated from Reidsville High School and Wake Forest University. He enjoyed an early career in the tobacco industry and in industrial work wears sales before becoming an NC Farm Bureau agent in Cleveland County NC and afterward, a Nationwide Insurance Agent in both Cleveland County and Rockingham County NC.Work does comprise the majority of each week for Jim, but he enjoys being an active member of the Reidsville Kiwanis Club, whose mission is to serve needy children of the region.
In 2014 Fargis insurance was recognized for having raised the most money by an Erie Agent in the Greensboro district for the Northwest North Carolina Food Bank.
